The occasion of bringing a new puppy to home is very exciting to people who love dogs. You should be a bit careful in identifying the breed and personality of the puppy before selecting it. You should identify your need before choice because some breeds are naturally protective or energetic. Puppies can bring great pleasure to your home but to keep that atmosphere for a long time you should provide better training.

Dogs have their own emotions and characters. The character of a dog depends on its breed and environment in which it lives. Training is essential to dogs to adjust with conditions not familiar to them. It may take some time to change the natural instincts of a dog and make it adjust to your surroundings. You don’t have to spend hours to train a dog, just spent a few minutes everyday with the dog and show patience to understand your pet.

Training a puppy is more effective than grown dogs. Puppies will have an open mind and will not show resistance to learn new training basics. The training sessions will be entertaining to both you and the puppy.

You should be consistent and maintain a time table for training a dog. Spend a few minutes regularly to mould the character of your dog everyday. Keep reminding the dog of things previously learned as they have a tendency to forget.

Puppies will have a tendency to chew things during the teething stage. This can cause damages to your household items. Training puppies early will enable you to avoid such incidents.

Dog Training commands

The ownership of a new dog will be interesting and gives you great mental satisfaction. However you have to learn a lot of things to bring your dog under your control and make him behave properly. The training process will increase the relation between you and your dog. The dog will feel more comfortable and will start to obey your order once it gets into your track.

The first command to be taught is to SIT. This command will make the dog stay upright in unfavorable situations. When you feel that the dog is causing problems to others you can instruct him to sit so that it comes to a position of rest and reorganize.

The sit command can be used along with STAY or WAIT command to control the dog when you take it to public places. The stay command keeps the dog away from dangerous situations even if the owner is not near.
The COME command is used to make the dog follow the owner. This can be utilized to make the dog not to indulge in dangerous situations and be with you to avoid troubles. The HEEL command will teach the dog to calm down and walk beside you. This command will enable you to take your dog outside without leash.

The DOWN command makes your dog to lie on the ground. This can be used to control the dog when some people are afraid of the dog. You can also use OFF command when the dog turns unexpectedly to some people not familiar to the dog.

Dog Training methods

The presence and affection of dog will give great mental satisfaction and relief to a person. A puppy will grow into an adult dog in a short time. The behavior of the dog like licking or jumping into the body will turn troublesome as the dog grows physically big. So you should train the dog to behave properly when it is a puppy.

Puppies have an ability to learn things quickly since they have not developed any behavioral pattern. You cannot blame dog for its bad behaviors if you have not trained it in the earlier stages. Earlier dogs were trained only after six months. But at this age it would have learned certain things and will be difficult to change all together. They will be reluctant to obey our commands and turn hostile to training.

Now more professional methods are employed to train dogs. Trainers are more comfortable with puppies of eight to ten weeks old. They can be easily put into socialization and basic command training at this age.

Trainers no longer use any force or punishments in their approach to training. Such traditional methods will create a negative impact on the dogs. Puppies are trained to relax, greet others politely, behave properly on a leash and obey basic commands.

The dog owners are also no willing to actively participate in dog training. This has a great positive impact on the character of the dog. Many psychological studies are now conducted to understand the behavior of animals and these ideas are effectively applied to train dogs.
Clicker and luring training are two methods now widely used to train dogs :

  • In clicker training a clicking sound is used to teach dogs the basic commands for sitting, coming etc.
  • In luring toys or praises are offered to dogs when they obey commands.
